Discovery Park District at Purdue: Welcoming SkyWater Technology & celebrating housing numbers

On July 20, officials from Purdue University, the State of Indiana and SkyWater Technology announced plans to open a state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing facility in Discovery Park District at Purdue. The $1.8 billion facility is expected to support 750 new, direct jobs within five years after opening, including R&D engineering, technology development, operations engineering, maintenance and technical support and technicians.

Bustling with new jobs

This news further establishes the district’s international reputation as one of the most attractive and innovative environments in the Midwest for industry to locate. Once the facility opens, SkyWater Technology joins Saab, Rolls-Royce, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories and MediaTek as high-tech companies bringing high-paying, high-skilled jobs to the 400-acre, mixed-used development adjacent to Purdue’s West Lafayette campus.

The district is home to many companies other than those listed above: More than 25 companies have a presence in the community, including the Convergence Center for Innovation and Collaboration. They have committed more than 1,400 jobs to the district.

Strong housing stats

Discovery Park District is more than a location for high-tech industry, however. It’s a community deliberately designed for live-work-play lifestyle including options for housing, medical, and retail spaces, green spaces and more.

So while we celebrate SkyWater Technology planning to build a manufacturing center here, let’s also celebrate some of the best housing news we’ve seen in the district, too!

One hundred percent of the apartments that have been built in the Provenance neighborhood have been completed, leased and committed to district residents: that’s 142 out of 142. And there are more than 100 apartments yet to be built.

Four townhomes in Provenance have been built and sold, with more than 30 currently under construction. Eleven single-family homes in Provenance have been built and sold; another 15 have been purchased but not yet fully constructed.
